Baltic Bay Kiel

The Location
lageplan-baltic-bay-kiel.jpgThere is no doubt that the Schleswig-Holstein capital of Kiel is the unchallenged gateway to the Baltic Sea. The “Kiel Canal” is the direct link between the world’s oceans. The increasing armada of cruiser ships berthed at Kiel’s port as well as the Baltic ferry-boats of Stena Line and Color Line which link Kiel’s seaport with Sweden and Norway, show Kiel to be a great starting and finishing port for a tour of the Baltic Sea. The shipyard industry is highly developed and has also established its reputation through its construction of mega-yachts such as; “Lady Moura”, “MIPOS”, “Octopus”, the wonderful classic “Sea Cloud” as well as the fantastic “Sigma” (still under construction) which were all built by HDW in Kiel (today belonging to ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems - a member of ThyssenKrupp Group). Moreover the city is internationally known to all aquatic fans for its unique sailing sport event of the “Kiel Week”.

The Marina
balticbay_luft.jpgThe Baltic Bay Marina Kiel as planned by MPDI is intended to be built in the Kiel Inner Fjord in the immediate vicinity of the Kiel Yacht Club (KYC). It will represent the first marina in the Baltic Sea region which will fully meet the demand for high-standard berth facilities which are especially designed to the needs of mega-yachts. The facilities of the marina are particularly tailored to the needs of yacht owners and skippers from all over the world providing moorings for yachts of all sizes up to mega-yacht berths of between 30 and 100 m in length. The berths will supply all comforts and amenities required by yachts with the availability of Internet, telephone, TV, fax and lockable storage boxes. Adequate power supply (400V-50Hz-63-125 three-phase A. C.) will be offered as well as easy access to the yachts for owners, the crew and diverse yacht’s suppliers like fuel tankers etc.
The marina will have attached a 5-star-hotel with a conference centre of which ship owners and their guests may also enjoy all its facilities including a fitness centre with wellness area and spa pool. In the centre of the harbour’s basin a complex of high-class freehold apartments will be built, with bars, cafés, restaurants, diverse retail stores, medical practices, yacht chandlers and yacht charter brokers accommodated in the building’s ground floor. A helicopter landing platform will be located on the outer pier. The Baltic Bay Marina Kiel will provide in cooperation with different shipyards (e. g. Refit/ Schiffswerft Laboe, HDW, Gebr. Friedrichs, Lindenau, Lürssen, Nobiskrug and other companies specialised in maritime industry) repair services, refitting as well as new yacht construction.

The Marina will have available a berth for vessels specialised in the direct transport of mega-yachts from the Caribbean or Mediterranean Sea to the Baltic Sea and vice versa (e. g. Dockwise or Sevenstar). This berth will be up to the standard for cruise ships and will observe the regulations of the IPS-code. This concerns the supply of shore power connections as well which enable cruisers and yacht transporters to switch off their generators during berth for ecologically beneficial reasons. Negotiations on this matter have already been initiated.

Events and Activities
baltichafenhaus1.jpgThere will be events organized by the Baltic Bay Marina Kiel in addition to already well established sports meetings and events.
